Miller Chantharasy and Charles Ma are the only two seniors on the tennis team. The Nest takes the opportunity to interview them before the season ends.
Miller Chantharasy (12) is known for playing multiple sports at Brentwood; he claims his goal is to collect as many senior banners as possible. This year is Chantharasy’s first year on the tennis team. He had never played tennis but became interested when his dad’s girlfriend talked to him about trying it. Chantharasy describes his interest in tennis, saying, “A lot of my family members played it. I wanted to beat them. Knowing I could probably beat them in the next few months keeps me going.” Chantharasy may not have any specific favorite memories of being on the team, but he enjoys playing sports. Charles Ma (12) started playing tennis during the pandemic. “There was nothing much to do during COVID-19,” says Ma. “I was sitting at home and no one was using the courts.” Since then, he has been on the tennis team, joining his sophomore year. He continues to play the sport because of his love for it. “It’s super fun, and the sport helps build character and teamwork with double partners. You have to communicate and work together,” shared Ma. His favorite memory is when he was playing a match against someone from Metro Academic and Classical High School. At first, Ma was losing the game, but over time, his mindset became positive, and he was able to win the match. He looks up to a tennis player named Nick Kyrigos, who impressed Ma with his enjoyable style of play. In the future, he would love to continue playing tennis in clubs but isn’t interested in playing the sport in college.
Charles Ma and Miller Chantharasy have created better mindsets and drive themselves to complete any goal they can put their mind to. We wish Ma and Chantharasy the best of luck as they leave Brentwood.
