Last Friday, October 25th, the Cross Country team raced at Saint Vincent Park for Clayton’s invitational. Afterwards, the team held its senior night to honor its four graduating seniors. Read about them here!
Luca Bostick-Valero is a senior this year and he has been running cross country since his junior year. Bostick-Valero also participates in soccer and said he handles both sports by “playing soccer on the weekdays and running cross-country on the weekends.” He has enjoyed cross country because he considers it an easier sport that is more about “playing against yourself,” meaning that every race is a mental game. Bostick-Valero said he looked up to former Head Coach Mrs. Cohen and now Head Coach Gordan for advice about cross country.
Logan Hawkins has been running cross country since his sophomore year. Hawkins’ favorite part about cross-country is the people he runs with. He states that he looks up to Cole Flynn for advice because “he’s an amazing leader and captain.” Hawkins also plays soccer and said that he balances both by going to all soccer practices and games and then to every cross-country meet that his schedule allows. His favorite way to get ready for a meet is to listen to music and pretend he’s in a cold cross-country edit. Hawkins enjoys cross-country so much that at one of his meets, he wore a Luigi costume.
Jackson Curd has been running cross country since his sophomore year as well. Curd also plays soccer as his primary sport but likes how cross country keeps him in shape. He first wasn’t too keen to join the team but was later “voluntold” by Coach Cohen and later stuck with it and now enjoys running. He looks up to his younger sister, Kensi Curd, who is also a cross-country runner. Curd said, “She is the best runner I know.”
Nathaniel Ayotte is new to the cross-country family this year but has also found a great love for the sport. Even though Ayotte hasn’t been running cross-country for long, he likes running so much that he even runs outside of practice. “One time I ran in the pouring rain and I could barely see anything, it was pretty fun,” he said. Ayotte’s favorite way to get ready before a meet is to walk the course and then trick his brain into thinking that it is nothing too hard. He looks up to Coach Gordan for advice because “he is like a super genius,” he said.
