“Take a minute to make someone’s day,” is the slogan for StuCo’s yearly fundraiser Crush for a Crush. Profits from the sale are partially used to support BHS’s Dance For a Difference in spring, with any leftover money donated to the same charity. Despite the name, Crush for a Crush doesn’t have to be given to a crush, the cans of soda are often given to friends on Valentine’s Day. Because we don’t have school on the holiday this year, crushes will be delivered today, Feb. 13th, during advisory.
“Crush for a Crush gives everyone a chance to spread joy in the building,” says StuCo sponsor Mr. Hamdan.
When asked where the idea of Crush for a Crush came from, Hamdan stated that he wasn’t sure, however, it has been around all his years of teaching at Brentwood.

While Crush for a Crush feels like a distinct Brentwood tradition, the idea behind it – taking a minute to make someone’s day – happens in many schools. When going around and asking teachers if they had anything similar at their high schools, Coach Gordon and Athletic Trainer Dee were able to provide some answers. Coach Gordon explained that his high school had a system where you would put in a friend’s name on a form and they would receive candy hearts or gummy bears. Though he wasn’t completely sure, he stated that these cost less than a dollar. They also had the option of sending flowers, but this was more expensive than the candies. Trainer Dee, however, stated that her high school only did candy hearts.
Happy day-before Valentine’s Day Brentwood!
