Are you a fan of girls’ basketball? If so keep reading to find out more about how the team is doing this year and how the season is going so far.
The team has had 5 games so far with their sixth game tonight against Hancock at the Tiger Dome. After the team’s most recent win against Collegiate, they have a record of 2-3. The team has also played Crystal City, University City, McKinley, and Villa Duchesne. Having only won against Mckinley and Collegiate, you would expect the team to be pretty down, but junior Kensington Curd has a pretty positive attitude about this year’s team.
“With the new team and it being young, it’s going pretty well,” Curd said. “We have a lot to learn, but I feel like everybody is willing and able to adapt.” She also mentioned that the team has a lot of versatility with speed and she said everybody is pretty good at shooting.
The team also struggled a lot this year at first to find enough players. With Brentwood being a small school, this can be a common issue in sports. But they eventually got enough players, and ever since, they’ve been thriving. There are 8 people on the team and no seniors at all this year.
If you love watching girls’ basketball, then come out and support our small but strong team at their game tonight vs Hancock at Tiger Dome at 5:00 p.m.
Winter Cheer
If you didn’t know, the Brentwood cheerleaders do not only cheer during the football season but also during the winter as well. The cheer team comes to almost all of the boys’ varsity games. As a member of the cheer team, and I would say compared to football season, it’s going pretty well. For football, the team had only 8 cheerleaders which made it pretty difficult. But now the team has 16! I talked to senior and captain Sariah Bailey, and she said, “The season is going kind of rocky, but I guess it’s because of new people combining into one team. But it’s not going too bad right now.” Bailey also said she is excited to learn new cheers and be more of a team to see what we can accomplish together.
If you love to see the cheerleaders while supporting BHS basketball, then come on out to the Hancock game on December 17th at 6:30 pm. If you don’t want to make the drive, our first home game is January 7th at 4:00 for JV and 6:30 for varsity.
