Brentwood volleyball has its Senior Night tonight, October 14th here in the BHS gym. Come cheer on the team as they honor their three graduating seniors: captain Emma Trostel, Katie Mackie, and new to Brentwood this year, Aoife Mahoney. Before the 5:30 p.m. game, the girls will be celebrated by their family and friends.
Before you attend tonight, learn more about these three athletes here:
Katie Mackie loves volleyball and has been playing it since she was young and competing through CYC at Saint Mary Magdalen. Her favorite part of volleyball is serving. Katie is very sad to leave this year, but is excited for what’s up next for her.
On Senior night, be sure to cheer on Katie and her family, but if you miss out, it won’t be her last. Mackie is a triple threat in sports, as she also plays basketball and soccer.
Emma Trostel has been playing volleyball since she was in fifth grade. Like Mackie, she started playing through CYC with Saint Mary Magdalen.
Trostel, who also plays club volleyball at Crossfire, is one of this year’s team captains. She is thrilled to be able to play her last season with BHS after having knee surgery back in May. “I was really nervous coming into that first game because I was worried that my skill wasn’t going to come back to the same level,” she said. “But it feels really good to be back on the court and just have the same fun that I used to.”
Trostel’s favorite BHS volleyball memory is when the girls beat Maplewood this year. “It was such a fun game, it was just so electric,” Trostel said. As for advice for younger players? Trostel says, “Play every point like its game point and play every game like it’s your last, because you never really know when your last game is going to be and it definitely creeps up on you.”
Our last senior is Aoife Mahoney. Mahoney is new to the BHS family and has been really enjoying her time
here. Mahoney’s favorite memory this season was also the MRH game. “We all worked really hard that game — but to beat our rivals? That was really nice,” she said. Mahoney has unfortunately not been able to play the last few games but is excited to be back tonight in time for senior night.
Come out tonight and bring your friends tonight! It’s gonna be a night to remember!
