Last night in an away game against Collegiate, senior Logan Hawkins sunk his 1,000th point of his high school basketball career! In total, Hawkins is now at 1,017 points, and the Boys Varsity basketball season is less than half over.
“I’ve worked hard for it since my freshman year,” said Hawkins. “And I’ve progressively just gotten better. I feel like it’s just a testament to how hard I’ve worked and how much better I’ve gotten.”
After last night’s 63 to 32-point win over Collegiate, the team’s record is now 4-1. The team has played Veritas Christian, Valley Park, Valmeyer, McKinley, and Collegiate and won every game except a Dec. 5th loss against Valley Park with a score of 63-31.
With one of the best players having graduated last year, Carter Bowman, one might think the team would struggle this year; however, they’re doing great and have gained a lot of new players, both upperclassmen and freshmen. The current varsity and JV teams have a combined total of 19 players with plenty of rising talent.
“I think the season is going well,” said senior Tyler Taylor, one of eight seniors on the team this year. “We’re slowly developing but we’re gonna get where we need to be eventually.”
Taylor also said that he is looking forward to playing Bayless and hopefully going to the district championship again this year. Come out and support the boys tomorrow at Grandview High School at 6:30! The team has their first home game on January 7th at 6:30.
